bespoke boardroom table company uk

Fusion are seeing a trend towards high end luxury boardroom tables in the UK. Many clients ask us about designing modern luxury boardroom tables. The design trend is for a mix of high quality wood paired with stone or glass to create some truly eye-catching boardroom table designs.

Modern Luxury Boardroom Tables

The workmanship required to manufacture a table using contrasting materials starts with CAD production drawings based on our designers intent. Once the natural stone is selected a stone mason will produce the insert and deliver to the table workshop. Our cabinet makers then cut the table to fit the stone, rather than the other way round. The critical part comes in working out the tolerance fit. Stone expands much more slowly than wood entailing some degree of expansion gap between the two materials. In most offices this tolerance is minimal as the temperature won’t vary greatly but is the reason there’s a slight tolerance between the two.

Best boardroom tables.

Most of our luxury tables have a stone insert set in the middle of a veneered surface. Its equally possible to specify your boardroom table with this reversed. A stone table with wood or glass insert is just as striking but dramatically alters the look of the room. A stone boardroom table for instance using marble is much cooler in style, probably a bit less tactile, but definitely a modern appearance. With stone tables its all about the extent of the pattern and colour tone. Its also fairly typical to see stone tops paired with metal leg frames. The use of metal lightens the visual weight of the table.

We’re also seeing a lot of boardrooms mirroring the table shape in ceiling features. These can be a lighting feature, a formed ceiling shape or a mix of both. This design effect is really dramatic and makes the table even more central to the room design.

high end boardroom table

Large luxury boardroom tables will typically include plenty of cable management and power sockets to ensure everyone can connect.

Also typical of a large boardroom is the use of high back chairs. The bigger room size is better able to handle the volume of furniture, which is often upsized to fill the space. Its all about proportion when designing the room concept. Once the boardroom has created a first impression then the quality of the furniture and room interior have a second impact.

Gloss finishes as an accent are always an instant means of elevating the high end look of a table. This works particularly well when the central insert is polished.

Reconfigurable folding modular conference tables

Recently installed at the Conrad Hilton in London Victoria is our Turntable system. These reconfigurable folding modular conference tables in a distinctive wenge finish reflect the high-end interior in the 5* Conrad Hotel conference suite.

folding conference table on wheels

The 20-seater table format is made up of 4 modular conference table sections. Each section is standalone giving the Hilton conference booking team flexibility to reconfigure the table for 8 / 12 / 16 and 20 seats. The tables are easy to fold and move. 1 person can reconfigure the tables. The two D-end sections can be joined to form one smaller 8-seater.

The grey-brown wenge finish was selected to add a more contemporary tone to the conference suite. Although the joinery is a tried and trusted dark cherry it was decided to make the modular conference tables slightly more modern without loosing the executive style.

Power Sockets in the Tables

Each of the folding conference modular tables has its own cable access cover with sockets inside the table for power, HDMi etc. Heavy duty castors allow the table to run over the deep carpet which would otherwise make the tables fairly hard to manoeuvre. The folding design creates a table that is narrow enough to sit inside the room as a side table, or wheeled out of the room completely and stored in the conference suite lobby.

Fusion Executive Furniture designed the table layout to fit the room, with reconfiguration layouts to determine the best size for each of the modular table sections. If you’re considering folding modular conference tables get in touch with Fusion Executive Furniture. We have experience in designing all types of conference room furniture including our heavy duty tilt-top range and the folding-leaf table system shown here. Our process starts with an understanding of how you aim to reconfigure the table layouts, and room sizes, to give us the information we need to create a series of layout plans showing all the table configurations. We’ll advise on viewing angles, cable connectivity for power and AV, and recommend the best table system. From there we can work with you to select the best table finish, either matched to an interior or as a high quality finish in its own style.

Folding Conference Table in grey wood

A new 4-section folding conference table in grey wood finish has been installed in the Council Chamber for East Grinstead Town Council. The regency building has very commanding interior decor and the new reconfigurable conference furniture is styled to downplay the impact rather than compete with the interior. The council chamber is used both for town councillor meetings, staff conferences and internal meetings, and also for conference room hire and as a wedding venue. A true multi-purpose conference room. The folding conference table replaced a 1980s static table which offered nothing by way of reconfiguration or the ability to empty the room.

Our folding conference tables offer a number of configurations. In meeting and conference format the table can be 1, 2, 3 or 4 modules combined to make an overall size up to 6 metres for 20 – 22 people. Tables can be turned into a ‘T’ shape for committee style layouts, or used as a single-sided table when the room is laid out with theatre-style seating rows.

folding conference table

Tables can be fully folded and the room cleared, or tables left at the edge of the room. 1 table is to be left folded most of the time in normal use and stored beside the grand fireplace in an alcove.

The folding conference tables are cable-managed with each section having its own access flap matched to the main surface, and cables routed down through a box-base to the floor. Sadly this 1700s building doesn’t have any cabling or socket outlets in the floor so cables are laid within a loose conduit from the table base to the perimeter.

folding conference table for council chamber

The full 4-section table configuration can be separated, folded, and moved away within 4-5 minutes…each table typically takes about 45 seconds to fold for one person. Every section is freestanding, on lockable heavy-duty castors, and moves easily for a solid, stable, furniture piece. This council chamber has a deep-pile carpet and our table has large wheels in order to move freely across the floor.

With a 4-section modular folding conference table configuration its possible to set the conference room up in a number of ways. This space plan drawing shows typical table layouts for a multi use conference room with reconfigurable tables.

When it comes to your boardroom, it’s the key place when it comes to strategic planning and making important decisions, which overall result in the success of your business. Your boardroom or conference table should set the right impression to your clients or contacts, anyone who’ll be visiting your premises. It should also provide comfort and enough space to reflect your business positively. As one of the most important items of furniture, choosing the right conference table is a challenging decision and will require thoughtful consideration. Our guide below shows some of the key points you should go over before before you choose your conference room table, to ensure that it provides the best functionality and design that incorporates your business needs.

Consider your boardroom space

Working out how much space you’ll need for your new boardroom table should be your main priority, a table which is too small or too big in relation to the size of your boardroom can contribute to leaving a negative first impression, as well as using up the practicality of the space. Bigger conference room tables will be able to seat more people for more common meetings, however it is important that there’s enough room for chairs to be comfortably pushed away from the table, as well as there being enough space for people to walk around it. Your boardroom may also need additional furniture, including screens and projectors, or decorative items, so you’ll need to make sure that these items also fit into the room, without the room looking too cluttered.

Is the table proportionate?

It’s essential that you think about how your conference table will complement and go with the style of the other furniture in the room. Considering your table in relation to other pieces of furniture, you’ll avoid the mistake of matching your boardroom table with ill fitting and disproportionate chairs that could look out of place and are impractical. In our experience people tend to opt for chairs that are too big for their table, this makes people feel enclosed and packed in, or chairs that are too small or short, leaving people feeling uncomfortable and overwhelmed when around the table.

What are you using the table for?

How many people do you expect to attend your meetings, how often do they attend them? If you hold meetings of around four people but then you host a large event a few times a year, then a folding meeting table is a good option. You may want to opt for a more impressive conference table with the capability of seating ten, but if you’re only using it for small video conferencing appointments, then you may want to reconsider options for more appropriate use of your boardroom space.

What table shape should I choose?

Different shaped tables can enhance the functionality of your boardroom space as well as the impact of the look and feel of the room. A round table is usually better suited to collaborative actions and rectangular tables are good for appointing a head of table or hierarchy. Wedge tables are more innovative designs which act as a hybrid for increased ease of viewing of presentations or main speakers in larger meetings.

Do I require integrated technology?

Should you require the facilities to conduct video and voice presentations in your boardroom, or if you regularly use laptops and other portable devices, you’ll need a boardroom table which can provide this access. Ensure that you have a suitable number of ports and outlets for everyone at the table, plus extra for additional requirements.

Professional presenting

An effective boardroom will provide a consistent design that expresses what you want and what your business represents. Should you already have furniture in your boardroom, try to closely match your conference table to the style of furniture, this will provide a more professional image. Bear in mind that should you wish to add furniture to your boardroom later on, it’s important to make sure that your table is an easy colour or design to match, as well as being practical in the space you have.

Folding Conference Tables with Wheels

Alliance Surgical in Birmingham have chosen tilt top folding conference tables with wheels from Fusion Executive Furniture. Each section has a cable port for cabling to the table surface. Fusion worked closely with Alliance to create the appearance that was preferred. A slim undercut edge profile has been used, with the centre table joint made in a flat square-edge shape so that the tables butt together happily, and link together to form a stable configuration. The two predominant table configurations are as a conference table setup with both tables linked and joined, or folded to clear the room. Occasionally the tables are used in a standalone format.

The two rooms measure 8.5m long by 4.3m wide when the sliding wall is opened. In day to day use the third table is stored in the room, folded and against a wall. Reconfigurable Folding Conference table

Veneered in natural walnut, these reconfigurable folding conference tables are designed to seat 14 to 16 people. When folded, the tables are perfect as a slim side table, or can easily be cleared from the room. Cornerstone Barristers close to Chancery Lane use the table in their main presentation room. Our Turntable system is reconfigured almost every day and was specified by architects Chapman Waterworth to provide the flexibility of conference table use, presentations and events.

The image below shows one section of the conference table folded. This can be detached to leave a 10-12 person conference table format.

Individual Tables

Each table folds and moves independently. The sections are very easy to reconfigure, either as a side table, a ‘desk’ with one leaf folded, or cleared from the room completely. In desk format the room can be used for training or for presentation or committee use with the table as a ‘top table’.

folded conference tables

These reconfigurable folding conference tables have discreet cable management and socket access in each section. The matching veneered cable access flap covers a socket module set into a cable box. The large box base on Turntable allows Cornerstone to conceal AV hardware within the table, linked to the flat screen and an audio system. Achieving a matched cable flap requires a great deal of attention to detail. The cable access flap on this table is perfectly matched without any dislocation of the grain. The socket module has power, data, HDMi, VGA and audio jack plus room for excess cables.

Folding Conference Table in Dark Cherry Veneer.

A 3-section dark cherry veneer folding conference table has been installed in the offices of barristers Red Lion Chambers. The folding conference table has flush mounted power sockets set into the centre of each section. Overall the 3 folding tables make up a large 12 – 16 person conference table configuration. Each table is 1500mm square, making the full table when set up 4.5m x 1.5m. When folded each table is 1.5m long x 0.42m wide.

dark cherry folding conference table

Dark cherry is a popular wood finish in north America, having a similar tone to mahogany with a great consistency making it an ideal veneer for a ‘system’ or modular conference table. This quality is perfect for a reconfigurable table as its not critical to get the tables in any particular sequence when setting them up. Veneered tables with a very distinct grain that has been matched across table sections means the tables have to be set up in correct order, often adding to the reconfiguration time. Turntable is quick and easy to fold, move, and re-configure. Red Lion Chambers selected Turntable to allow their large conference room to be cleared for lectures and other events, whilst retaining the appearance and cable management capability of a conventional conference table. The sheen level achieved during the polishing stage yields a balance between gloss and stain finish which is the best balance between practicality and appearance. A higher gloss level looks great but shows hand prints.

The power sockets used in these conference tables are the pop-up type. A fixed border plate has a rising section with power sockets. The central box-base ducts cables down to floorboxes under each section.
